When Evil Lurks

In a remote village, two brothers find a demon-infected man just about to “give birth” to evil itself. They decide to get rid of the body, only to end up unintentionally spreading chaos.d

This movie stays when others would cut away. There are a few moments when I think they may be trying to hurt you. This is a violent film that does not pull punches.

This is a posesion movie that feels like a zombie movie and it will keep you guessing. It is a Spanish language film, it takes place in Argentina, and as far as I know it is only available with subtitles. Do not let that put you off it though as the performances are good and you can feel what the characters are feeeling even if you have to read what they are saying.

I like that the world of the film is one where for the most part demons exist and you do not spend any of the runtime with unbelievers. At least not the characters we are following anyway. I feel like this takes up a bunch of time in movies of this type and it was nice to skip that.

There are some brutal scenes that include children and animals so it is definitely not for everyone. It is not all the time, but when it happens they commit hard to the event.

I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation and tone in this film. It is extremely well done and the language barrier did not take me out of it at all. You probably need to be in the right mood for this one but it is well worth the ride.
