The cover on this movie use to freak me out when I was little walking around Family Video.

Is it wrong that this is my favorite film directed by Peter Jackson? I like The Lord of the Rings films but I like this more. I like LOTR the book series and the movies. I do NOT want to talk about The Hobbit movies. Anyway, this movie is not better than those movies but I like what I like.

This, unlike Evil Dead, is a zombie movie. It has a lot of practical effects and has only been beaten by films with much higher budgets on its use of blood. They use a lot of blood. The fact that both Army of Darkness and Dead Alive came out in the same year has to mean something. I do not know what that is exactly, but surely it means something.

I like how over the top and ridiculous this movie is and I do not care if the effects are any good.

Spoilers ahead!

I think I need the next Evil Dead movie to use a lawnmower. There are so many people that like one series but have not seen this film that it would work.

The zombie baby that is clearly a full grown person in a baby costume is perfect and no excuse is needed for it. The uncle is a greaser for some reason and he is disgusting which is also great. There are lots of gore in these types of movies and honestly it does not really get to me. That being said, the custard scene in this movie gets to me everytime.

This movie has some great quotes but I think my personal favorite is, “I kick ass for the lord” with “Your mother ate my dog” coming in a close second.

There is something Psycho adjacent about this movie which adds something. Then the movie just keeps throwing weird stuff at you. What if we made this funeral as weird as possible? What if we used some glue to reattach parts of your rotting face? What if we had a party at a house with zombies in the basement? What if your mom turned into a giant zombie puppet and tried to force you back inside?

This movie prioritized special effects and madness and I am here for it.

This is day 70 of 100 Days To Offload.
