Paperless-ngx

 read in about 1 minute

New experiment with self-hosting, this time with Paperless-ngx. It has OCR and can make your documents searchable which I think is pretty cool. Going to go through my old files and get things loaded in here.

As I’m doing this I ran into a snag where for some reason my gas bill has PDFs attached but they’re password protected so I had to use the following to unlock them in mass.

find . -iname '*.pdf' -exec qpdf --password=PASSWORD --decrypt {} output/{} \;

I’m using Thunderbird to view and save locally my email so I added an extension to download attachments from multiple files at once which has come in handy.

There appears to be a few iOS options that can export to paperless-ngx which will make scanning documents into this system easier. For now I’m testing out QuickScan.
