FreshRSS Toggle Sidebar Extension

 read in about 1 minute

Yeah, so initially, I was frustrated with the layout of FreshRSS. Mostly because I typically use it on my vertical monitor, which means that the dedicated space, the persistent space for the list of your feeds that always appears on the left at a certain number of pixels, no matter what size screen it’s on, means that it’s kind of in the way.

So I’ve been looking for a solution. Initially I thought, “I’m just going to try and change the size on it and write some CSS.” Custom CSS is allowed in a form in the settings you just enter it manually. So I messed around with that for a while, and I could shrink the navigation or even hide parts. After experimenting for a while, it just became a little bit more complicated than I was comfortable doing.

After a little online searching I found an existing solution for just this issue on github. I’m linking to the toggle extension here.

This works beautifully. Download it, put it in your extensions folder, enable it in the extension section in the settings, and it just works.

Now I can load my RSS feeds in FreshRSS in the browser on my portrait oriented monitor, and hide the navigation to the left. This solves the big issue I’ve had since switching from Feedly.
