This site can seem a bit barren so I’ve been thinking about adding a way to link to other posts from within a post. My first though was just to show other recent posts at the end of each post. This was easy enough to accomplish and style. This way there is always something else you can read next.

Something else I wanted to do was to make a recommendation based on the subject matter of the current post. To do this I used the post tags to find related content. With things like Weird Web October and 100 Days To Offload this can potentially provide not that relevant suggestions. To counteract this I added a preference for tags that appear first in the list. Typically I add more specific tags first and broader ones at the end. This way if you want to see posts that reference CSS, SVG, or some other specific topic I’ll have added it to the beginning of that array and the recommendations should be better.

For a little more information on why the post was recommended I provided a list of the tags that intersect with the current post you’re reading. These also link to the tag page so you can view other posts with the same tag.
