Matthew and I went to LCD Soundsystem at the Masonic Temple Theatre in Detroit, MI. According to Wikipedia, LCD Soundsystem is an American dance-punk revival band from Brooklyn, New York. By their own description, “LCD Soundsystem exist at the point of a Venn diagram where the loose grooves of disco bump up against the wiry spikiness of post-punk, and their songs hover between sharp-edged humor and heartfelt emotion.” I include these descriptions because I find it difficult to describe and like most bands that have been around for a while they’re definitely more than just one thing.

Just because it’s available I grabbed the setlist from setlist.fm, recreated below.

Out of curiosity I checked last.fm and the first song I scrobbled by LCD Soundsystem was Daft Punk Is Playing at My House on 3/21/2006. As you can see they didn’t play it last night which makes me a little sad.

Something I enjoyed about the show, possibly more than I should have, was that during one song they interacted with the house lights. I’m not a film the concert I’m attending person but I did grab enough to put together this animation. It was synced with the song and I thought it was fun.

Also, who doesn’t like a disco ball? Their self titled debut major label release featured a disco ball on the cover and has since been featured at shows and their marketing. This happened a few times throughout the show but with most songs featured an led display behind the band. I enjoyed this too and thought I would record just a little bit.

I was excited to finally see them live having been a fan now for almost twenty years. They put on a really fun show with a lot more going on in songs than their original recordings. The crowd was into it which was nice. There was only the occasional white guy dancing and making weird faces at the people around him. It was a loud concert and I need to start wearing ear plugs to these things.

I was really happy to see ‘Dance Yrself Clean’ and ‘You Wanted a Hit’ live. I’m really glad I made it out to this concert and would definitetly go again the next time they’re in town.

This is day 54 of #100DaysToOffload.
